21. The Cave Singers- Welcome Joy
I didn't think I liked this record as much as I thought I would when I first listened to it. But upon repeated listens I started to enjoy it more and more. The songs are simple, alt/folk songs, but the vocals and subtle use of organic instruments make it a stand out. (video)
22. The Antlers- Hospice
The Antlers created an album as cold and sterilized as their subject matter. A concept album about a hospital worker falling in love with a depressed and dying cancer patient, the songs are as dreamy and atmospheric as you might imagine. However, the band knows when to open it up offering some rocking moments to add tension to the songs. (video)
23. Hecq- Steeltongued
This is probably the most creative and innovative ambiant instrumental release I've ever heard. Hecq knows how to create songs that are intersting and moving without the use of conventional instruaments or vocals. (video)
24. Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
If you haven't heard this French dance rock band, you've probably been sleeping under a rock. Heck, their song seems to be on TV every commercial break as the background music for a car company that knows how to pick good songs to use in ads. But as much hype as this release has gotten, it features some seriously catchy and dancable rock songs that will stay with you for days. (video)

JJ offers what I describe as pop perfection. The more and more I listen to this record, the more infections it becomes. With a distinctive afro-pop flare (think Paul Simon), these guys create amazing beautiful and catchy songs that every will enjoy. (video)
26. The Decemberists- The Hazards of Love
The Decemberists are back again with a full fledged rock opera style concept album. The band fully embraces their prog tendencies with massive build ups and huge synth sounds, but they manage to keep it fun and not take themselves to seriously. (video)
27. Brakes- Touchdown
This band from across the pound releases a rock album that likens back to 90s indie rock. No frills, just well written and well executed songs. (video)
28. Passion Pit- Manners
Passion Pit create perfectly constructed electronic with foot tapping rhythms and hand clapping beats. (video)
29. Dananananaykroyd- Hey Everyone!
A post-hardcore/punk band that enjoys being silly and fun?!? As the name implies this band does not take itself too seriously. But behind all that silliness is a seriously good band that features gang vocals, non-cliche heavy parts, all mixed with booty shaking rhythms. (video)
30. St. Vincent- Actor
Annie Clark (AKA St. Vincent) creates a eclectic mix of songs on her second solo record. She smartly uses many different instruments (clarinets, saxes, horns, keyboards, electronic elements) to accent her heavy distorted guitar tones and beautiful vocals. (video)

kudos to you from the sazdanoffs...we love your enthusiasm..there is no way we would be able to do top 50...we are still working on our top ten...but it should be up tomorrow..love ya
