In Case You Need More Reasons...

Sen. John McCain recently said this about the war in Iraq:

"We are no longer staring into the abyss of defeat, and we can now look ahead to the genuine prospect of success."

and

"The dramatic reduction in violence has opened the way for a return to something approaching normal political and economic life for the average Iraqi."

and

"To promise a withdrawal of our forces from Iraq, regardless of the calamitous consequences to the Iraqi people, our most vital interests, and the future of the Middle East, is the height of irresponsibility."

I truly for the life of me cannot believe that he is still claiming this "stay the course" rhetoric. It is obvious that this is a failed war that was flawed from the beginning. With over 4000 American troops deceased, over 509 billion spent (and counting), and absolutely no end in sight I can't believe that he believes we even have the remotest chance of the "prospect of success."

I really enjoyed Sen. Barack Obama's response to this and hope you do to:

"It's a failure of leadership to support an open-ended occupation of Iraq that has failed to press Iraq's leaders to reconcile, badly overstretched our military, put a strain on our military families, set back our ability to lead the world, and made the American people less safe."

And, I would add, has put a ridiculous strain on our economy to the tune of almost 10 billion a month out the window.

Can we put a price on the fact that our shores have not been attacked since we began our aggressive strategies on Al-kaida? How much did the loss of life, business, and buildings of the 9/11 slaughter cost us? Just something to ponder.
