Good Friday is my favorite of all religious holidays. I think its because I feel like its quite overlooked when compared to Easter or Christmas. The story of Jesus' crucifixion is a tragic yet beautiful one. The Jews of Jesus' time wanted a Messiah who was strong and capable of overthrowing the oppressive Roman government. They wanted a warrior, a violent revolutionary who would triumphantly lead them to victory. Instead they got a meek, gentle, and non-violent Messiah who advocated for turning the other check and loving your enemy. As Jesus was being led like a "lamb to the slaughter" it became obvious that he was wildly different than the Messiah that was expected.

May today serve as a reminder that being a non-violent revolutionary has high costs. And may we celebrate the in the beautiful reminder that our G-d choose non-violence and, in doing so, gave his life for us.
