Yesterday's Movie Reviewed

If you've read my last post, you saw that the wife and I took in our first (of hopefully many) film at the Bend Film Festival. We saw War Eagle, Arkansas, which was the story of two teenage boys who each are battling physical issues. "Wheels" has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair, while Enoch suffers from a extremely frustrating stutter. Together, however, the have been able to overcome their issues because they have been able to lean on one another. Though when Enoch starts falling for a girl and begins to think about playing baseball at an out of state college, their friendship is tested beyond what they could have imagined.

The film had a very intense and raw feel; the characters all had their flaws and were portrayed in real-to-life way. That said, the scenes sometimes lacked connectivity to one another and to the overall picture. It felt as though the movie lost a couple vital scenes in the editing. While it wasn't a perfect movie, I found it to be an inspiring and honest portrayal of friendship in rural America. And there is no doubt that its honest and intense story is far more interesting and worth your time that the top movie in America this week(!!!!!).

Also, we watched an awesome short film that will stick with me for a while called Memphis Calling (you have to click a link within this link to find info on it). The short featured Craig Robinson who plays Darryl in the Office. It is the story of a women accepting a strange collect call from someone named Memphis from a state department of corrections, and what follows that interesting call. In the short 11 minute running time, the film brings you through many emotions and it ends with a hugely moving resolve.
